There is to be a new magazine for Charlestown, and Noirin Gannon the local librarian is looking for material for it. People have until June 2013 to submit relevant material. Noirin Gannon can be contacted by calling into the library in Charlestown or contacting her on 094 925 5934. A food tasting night in Riverside, Charlestown, will take place on January 29. A great night is promised. You will be able to sample starters, main courses, and desserts from various countries.

John Healy weekend

The AGM of the John Healy Weekend takes place at 8pm on Thursday, January 24 in the Town Hall Arts Centre, Charlestown. Past and present members are asked to attend, as well as anyone interested in getting involved in this important Charlestown event.

Fun woodland walk for Westmeath this new year

Join the Native Woodland Trust for a guided walk of the Split Hills and Long Hill Esker Woodland on Saturday January 12 at 11am. These woods run along the famous Split Hills and Long Hill Esker located halfway between Tyrrellspass and Kilbeggan in County Westmeath. The wood is protected as a special area of conservation due to its unique and important woodland and wild flowers. This guided walk is free of charge and all are welcome. So come along to get some new year’s exercise and learn about this local natural gem.

Cape Cod Walk 2013 - participants sought

The 15th annual Cape Cod Walk will take place from Saturday May 25 to Sunday June 2 2013. Over the past 14 years dozens of volunteers have completed the challenge of walking 100km on the beautiful island of Cape Cod, which is just an hour from the city of Boston. To date, the walks have raised more than €850,000 for The Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, which is used to provide palliative care for the many patients who require the services in both Mayo and Roscommon.

JPC members want Westport Courthouse to remain open
